Kindling in Alcohol Withdrawal

This case-based discussion will explore the kindling phenomenon, in which repeated cycles of alcohol cessation and resumption progressively sensitize the central nervous system, increasing the severity of withdrawal with each episode. Through a neurobiological overview and patient cases, participants will examine how withdrawal risk may escalate even as alcohol consumption declines. Working through real-world clinical decision points, learners will develop practical strategies and a risk stratification approach they can apply to identify patients at heightened risk for severe alcohol withdrawal.
